Explore the region of Minho and Guimares: a cultural and natural Paradise!
In this article I would like to highlight the amazing surroundings of the D’alijo yoga retreat centre, where the retreat will take place. D’alijo Yoga centre retreat is placed in the midst of nature, vineyards, a beautiful national park and the old UNESCO city Guimares. Discover this beautiful historic city and wonder around the squares, small streets and ancient buildings.
The program leaves enough space for you to enjoy your free-time at the yoga centre or take a daytrip into the region of Guimares.
Just know that we are very flexible and can arrange for you transport to and from where ever you need to go.
The experience is that more people have similar plans, so that we can join forces and go in small groups (of course free to discover the surroundings by yourself if you prefer that).
National Parc Peneda – Geres
(about 30 min driving from the retreat centre)
Shaped by mountains, streams, rivers and canyons, the Peneda-Gerês National Park will offer you unique moments. You will need at least three days to fully visit the Peneda-Gerês National Park. In addition to the landscape you will discover, you will also have the opportunity to find wild animals, try tree climbing, trails, ride a horse and much more.
Historic UNESCO city ‘Guimares
(about 20 min driving from the retreat centre)
The historic town of Guimarães is associated with the emergence of the Portuguese national identity in the 12th century. An exceptionally well-preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town, its rich building typology exemplifies the specific development of Portuguese architecture from the 15th to 19th century through the consistent use of traditional building materials and techniques.’
‘Pelgrim city’ Braga
(about 30 min from the retreat centre)
Famous for its historical buildings, monuments, gardens and fountains Braga is a beautiful city in the heart of the green Minho region where religious devotion in the form of many churches and other symbols of faith lies juxtaposed with the typical bustle of a modern city complete with restaurants, bars and a renowned nightlife, owing in some part to the local universities.
Braga’s importance as a religious centre is by no means a recent phenomenon and pilgrims have been journeying here for many centuries, indeed it is said that the Visigoths would come here to denounce their heresies. Furthermore, in the 12th century, as the seat of the Portuguese archbishops, it became established as the religious capital of the country. This rich historical and cultural past has been lovingly well kept, even to the extent that local laws prevent the construction of high buildings in the certain areas so as to preserve the ancient beauty.
So whether you like to just enjoy a relaxed time at the swimming pool in the retreat centre or are more a more adventurous type, all is possible at the retreat ‘A Taste of Happiness’!
